Edward Keating papers, 1900-1964.

The papers consist mainly of correspondence, diaries, book manuscripts, speeches and material collected during Edward Keating's political and newspaper careers dating from 1913 to 1953. The earliest letters are from people prominent in state and national politics. Later correspondence from members of Congress are mostly acknowledgements of favorable articles published in Keating's Washington, D.C. based newspaper, Labor, and congratulatory correspondence upon his retirement from editorship of that journal. Additional papers collected during Keating's congressional and newspaper careers in Washington include material pertaining to investigative committees on which he served, or in which he was interested, speeches on various issues of the period, election campaign information, bills introduced before Congress, and press releases on major issues (1909-1920). Others reflect his editorship and management of Labor and his lifelong interest in labor issues covering 1900-1953. Included are Keating's original notes, drafts, proofs and published book The story of "Labor" (1953). Notes, drafts, manuscripts and published memoirs from The gentleman from Colorado (1964) are included. Other items include books from Keating's personal library, scrapbooks, photographs, newspapers and newspaper clippings. Margaret (Mrs. Edward) Keating's papers are also a part of the collection. They include correspondence, articles written by Mrs. Keating, one diary and experiences and observations as a congressman's wife and resident of Washington (1914-1938).
